The Role
We are recruiting for a Senior Scientist to join the Aptamer Group team in York.
This is a key role within our Production Team, supporting the delivery of high-quality aptamer selection and characterisation projects, with a particular focus on binding assays and molecular interaction analysis.
You will play an important role in ensuring projects are delivered to agreed timelines, while contributing to a proactive, collaborative and high-performing team environment.
Main responsibilities
- Lead and deliver aptamer selection and characterisation projects to agreed timelines
- Design, develop and optimise binding assays (e.g. ELISA/ELONA)
- Apply binding characterisation techniques such as Biolayer Interferometry (BLI) and/or Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR)
- Act as a technical lead on projects, ensuring clear communication and delivery
- Support coordination of workload to meet project deadlines
- Identify and escalate risks to delivery, contributing to solutions
- Contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory processes
- Ensure work is carried out in line with SOPs and quality standard
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has strong experience in assay development and optimisation, particularly ELISA or similar binding assays
- Has hands-on experience with binding characterisation techniques, such as BLI or SPR
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of protein–ligand interactions and data interpretation
- Has experience working in an industrial laboratory environment with structured processes and quality standards
- Is confident leading projects and taking ownership of delivery
- Has experience supporting or managing others within a lab environment
- Is highly organised, detail-oriented and proactive in problem-solving
Qualifications & Experience
- BSc or MSc in Biological Sciences (or related discipline) with relevant industry experience
