Job summary
This is a full-time Management Accountant opportunity in a growing AIM listed Group environment.

The Company
This is a growing AIM listed company in the Life Sciences sector who have a need for a motivated and experienced management accountant.  The role fits into a small finance team that are looking to improve the finance function as the company continues to grow.

Key Information
Reports to: Head of Finance
Direct reports: Accounts Assistant

Key responsibilities

  • Preparation of first draft of the monthly consolidated management accounts
  • Journalling appropriate revenue recognition based upon information provided by production and as approved by Head of Finance/CFO
  • Maintenance of tangible and intangible asset registers and journalling correct depreciation and amortisation
  • Inventory valuation based upon stock counts made by the laboratory team
  • Balance sheet reconciliations and month end close procedures
  • Raise bank payments ready for review and approval by the Head of Finance
  • Review payroll reports from outsourced payroll company and confirm that amendments agree back to changes approved by HR. Upload net pay to the bank for review by the Head of Finance. Ensure all payroll related taxes and pension are paid on a timely basis
  • Preparation of the VAT returns using the standard reports from Xero and submission once approved by the Head of Finance
  • Maintenance of intercompany balances
  • Variance analysis of actuals to budget including commentary in the monthly management accounts
  • Assist the Head of Finance with preparation of statutory financial statements
  • Liaise with external auditors and manage the collation of information required for audit work
  • First draft of three months cashflow forecast using actuals, activity v forecast report
  • Assist the Head of Finance with the preparation of the budget
  • Collation of information for research and development tax credits and grant applications
  • Assist the Head of Finance and CFO in the preparation of reports/presentations to senior executives
  • Assist departmental managers to understand their financial data through forecasting and variance analysis
  • Assist with maintaining and improving financial systems, controls and reporting
  • Additional ad hoc duties as required

The successful applicant

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Strong management accounting background
  • Ability to engage effectively with various business stakeholders
  • Highly proficient in MS Office (particularly Excel)
  • Knowledge of Xero (desirable)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A people person who enjoys working in a team environment
  • Organised and deadline driven
  • A positive and vibrant attitude
